Our Mission
Austin Groups for the Elderly is a non-profit organization empowering caregivers, the elderly and their families through education, advocacy, resources and support. We accomplish this mission through our four programs:

To help boost local philanthropy, the I Live Here, I Give Here campaign educates Central Texans about the many ways non-profits provide solutions to critical community issues. Show how "you give here" with a donation to Austin Groups for the Elderly.

What is the HELP Project?
It's a service of Austin Groups for the Elderly. The project loans durable medical equipment and incontinence products to elderly and disabled people in Central Texas. In 2010, over 1,100 pieces of equipment, including wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, commodes, and shower seats were provided to people in need across Central Texas.

Donating Equipment

Why should I donate my equipment? What if I need it again?
Donors say wheelchairs and other equipment simply take up space in their homes and collect dust. Many wish they had donated their DME earlier so it could be put to use by someone in need.

If the need arises, you and your family members may come and select from our donated DME equipment. We lend equipment to all who request our services. Little paperwork is required. No hassle.

What if my wheelchair or scooter needs work?
If we have storage space available, we may accept equipment in need of minor repairs. Area businesses repair equipment for us at reduced rates. We make sure the equipment is in useful condition before loaning it to another person. We gladly accept cash donations from the community to cover the $6,000 a year in costs to repair equipment.

Is my contribution tax deductible?
Yes, we will give you a letter for your tax records.

Why should I donate my equipment to Austin Groups for the Elderly instead of my local non-profit thrift store?
We maintain a database of elderly and disabled residents, and can quickly direct your used equipment to someone in need. Meals on Wheels, Seton Hospital and Easter Seals routinely refer clients who need such equipment to us. Also, unlike local thrift stores, we do not charge.

Will you pick up my equipment?
We will make every effort to send a volunteer to your home to collect large items such as scooters and electric lift chairs. We ask that you bring smaller items such as shower seats, walkers, canes and incontinence products to our office.

Borrowing Equipment

Who is eligible?
Anyone in need of equipment may borrow equipment free of charge. Please note we can not guarantee having any particular piece of equipment in stock, as our inventory changes daily based on donations. Whether you are a case manger, a senior, or simply someone in need of a piece of equipment, please contact us directly so we can help you.
